'This website'/'The website': all web pages on palindromes.science.uu.nl.
'The server': the computer server hosting this website.
The data controller and processor for the data collected by this website is Johan Jeuring. You can contact him by mailing johan@jeuring.net.
This section gives a complete overview of all data the server collects and what it is used for. All data is collected with legitimate interest and users are not legally required to provide personal data to use the website, nor is it necessary for entering into a contract.
All text inputted in the input field or via input text files is stored, along with the provided description and the used settings. We encourage users to not provide personal data in these fields to limit the amount of personal data stored. Information about where palindromes are found in the input, the start and end index of each found palindrome, is also stored. This data is mainly used for analytical research by the data controller about what search requests users of this site do and what trends can be uncovered therein. It is also used for research on the found palindromes, like the average and maximum length of found palindromes and the average and maximum number of found palindromes in each text. The data controller has access to individual input texts and descriptions to know what texts were used exactly for a search request and to be able to read the found palindromes as text.
In addition, the server logs data about each request to it. It stores the IP-address, browser and operating system details, the time the request was received and the type of request. This data is used to halt DoS attacks and other attacks or malicious use of the server. For example, this data can be used to block unwanted automated access to the webpages.
Only the data controller can access the data in a secured environment. The data is never shared with third parties, except if this is required by law or court decision. The data is stored in the Netherlands.
The search request and input data are used for statistical analysis purposes and scientific research. The log data is used for security purposes. The amount of stored data is minimized to reduce privacy intrusion.
The search request and input data is stored for as long as the scientific research by the data controller is conducted. This is necessary to be able to do research over all search requests and uncover historic trends. The log data is stored for 3 months, after which it is automatically erased.
All users of the website have the following rights:
Please note that the rights of access, rectification, erasure, data portability and restriction do not apply to the search request and input data. This limitation is in accordance with Article 89(2) of the GDPR, which limits the user's rights if data is processed for scientific or statistical purposes. The restrictions of these rights are necessary to safeguard the integrity of ongoing scientific research. These data do not contain personal information unless a user explicitly includes it and they are only accessible by the data controller in a secure environment. Users retain the right to object to the processing of their data and to lodge a complaint with the appropriate data protection authority.
Nonetheless, if users believe their search request or input data contains personal information and they have a legitimate reason, they may request deletion, which will be evaluated on a case-by-case basis by the data controller.
Users can exercise their rights or make their requests by contacting the data controller, Johan Jeuring, by mailing johan@jeuring.net.
